The classical music world has lost a quiet giant. Violinist Steven Kecskemethy has passed away at age 68, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Mr. Kecskemethy is probably best known to listeners as one of the founding members of the Portland String Quartet. But to a great many musicians, he is best remembered as "my teacher," as it's estimated that he taught thousands of them during a very active lifetime. Saturday (8/17) was his 17th wedding anniversary, and his wife Shirley noted that he passed around the same time of day as their wedding. How curious! To Shirley and family, to the members of the Portland String Quartet, and to the many lovers of classical music who were in some way influenced by Mr. Kecskemethy, we at WBACH offer our heartfelt condolences.
