Violinist and conductor Sir Neville Marriner celebrated his 90th birthday on April 15th. Though his career has included time with many performing ensembles, including two in the United States, it is with the group he founded--the Academy of Saint Martin In The Fields (ASMF) that he his most associated. Sir Neville founded that group in the late 1950s and today holds the position of Life President.
There is a MAINE connection to Sir Neville, too. During his early years he spent time here studying with Pierre Monteux at the conductor's famous summer "school" for conductors and musicians in Hancock.
All of us at WBACH wish Sir Neville Marriner a very happy birthday and many more years of good health and good music.
